Masters Research
I am a Masters student in the Department of Computer Science at Rhodes University. My project is titled “Network Monitoring and Accounting for Shared Community Networks“.
Short overview of project:
My project seeks to essentially replace existing routers (gateways) with an embedded machine running custom software on a very lightweight installation of FreeBSD. My goal is to be able to effectively manage and monitor networks, especially those networks where Internet bandwidth is very limited. At the end I hope to be able to ‘drop’ these routers at each network site and then be able to manage them from anywhere within the network. This project is about combining multiple existing technologies to produce an installable appliance. If you would like to know more about this project, please read my project proposal.
